Just wanted to give a quick update on Doc (Harris). He has been home with us for a few months now and we couldn’t have asked for a better member of our family! He has gained a bit of weight, his fur has grown out beautifully and is healthy and thick now and he has even learned that it is fun to play with toys!
He LOVES his family and is so happy in his fur-ever home. Thank you again for all you do!

Bear (previously known as “Buck”) was adopted approximately 3 months ago from our rescue. He was high heart worm positive and recently finished his treatment. Unfortunately, this poor guy couldn’t get a break.
He was diagnosed with cancer and his body couldn’t handle the treatment, so he was put to sleep yesterday (10/22/12). His owner said “My heart is broken but I know after talking with everyone that this was best for him. I stayed with him, held him, talked to him, and rubbed his belly while he fell asleep. I am so sad but I am so grateful for the time we had together and that he didn’t die alone and in pain. I’m glad that I was able to give him a wonderful home and so much love, even if it was just for a few months.”
The reason we (K-9 Angels) are sharing Bear’s story is because this girl is not only grieving the loss of her dog, she is also now dealing with a lot of financial stress. She is a young, single girl only a year out of college, and has spent almost $6,000 on Bear’s medical bills, about half of which is on a credit card. She could really use some help with this financial burden, so she set up a fundraiser page.
If you can donate even $10, it would mean a lot and would help her get through this difficult time…
Here is the link where you can donate:

We just wanted to give everyone, especially Mary, an update on Pinky, who we decided is more of a Roxie Hart, as she loves to be the center of attention!
Roxie (formerly Pinky) is such a blessing to us. After losing our last pup of 14 years, Roxie has helped our hearts heal in a way that we couldn’t have imagined. She is such a smart and loving dog and we adore her more every day. We just can’t believe someone didn’t want this beautiful baby and how lucky we are to have her!
Roxie loves going to the dog park a couple of evenings per week, playing chase with all of her friends, and she has also started beginners obedience training, although she doesn’t need much as she is so well-behaved! She is doing really well and making us very proud of our star student, as she has now mastered sit, leave it, drop it, and is an ace fetcher! One of her favorite things to do though, and we are so pleased, is to spend the day at the beach, which is pretty much a requirement in this family. She hops like a bunny through the waves and runs up and down the beach, chasing birds, diving into the water and playing with any other beach dogs she can find.
She makes us laugh so much and we could watch her play all day. She is one of the best-natured dogs we have ever met and beyond some puppy chewing and digging in the yard, Roxie has been our angel and we can’t thank the volunteers at K-9 Angels Rescue enough for taking care of her and loving her until we found her!

Here’s a picture of our brood, minus one cat who decided he didn’t need to be a part of the family photo. 🙂 Maggie is on the left with pink collar, Jemma is the ruby Cavalier in the middle, Nevo is the Maggie look-alike on the right and Lizzie is the kitty at the top of the chair. Hobbes is the kitty who opted out and yet he and Maggie are so fun together.
Maggie and Hobbes are great mates – they play with each other like no other cat and dog I’ve ever seen. Here is a picture of the 2 of them at play – Maggie on her back and Hobbes deciding where to pounce…
Plus they conspire together to get into the cupboards where the dog food is kept. We finally had to put baby locks on them because Hobbes would get the cabinet open, and Maggie would pull out the food — Canned food had kitty paw prints down inside any open can and dry dog food would be spilled all over the floor and promptly scarfed up by Maggie. The other dogs and cat would keep their distance because they knew they were the “good” animals. What a hoot!

Peyton is getting along with Samantha fine and even our daughter’s little one she brought over yesterday. He is already very attached to me in particular and wants to be at my side all the time. He even slept in the bed with me (or should I say half on top of me) all night.
Plus, my sister in-law brought her 3 yr. old over yesterday to see my husband for his birthday and not once did Peyton even attempt to jump. The only thing we our going to really have to work on is potty training. He pees everywhere…. we’ll get there though. Thanks again…. I love him! 🙂

I am happy to say Dexter is doing fantastic. He is a very smart dog, a fast learner. Michael had a doggy door installed and Dexter has the whole back yard to himself . He is officially housebroken! We never had to crate him, he sleeps in his doggy bed all night in our room. Dexter jogs with me in the AM and plays catch with his ball. We have his first vet visit this coming Thursday.
I can’t express enough how much Michael and I feel that this is the BEST dog, and how pleased we are to have made the long journey to adopt this boy permanently as part of our family! Thank you so much!
